The remains of the city of Panticapaeum, which was built on Mount Mithridat, still stand today, despite being hit by an earthquake in 70BC and sacked by the Huns in AD370.
A large amount of archaeological evidence has since been uncovered there, including gold work, imported goods and textile fragments. Located in Crimea, on the shores of the Cimmerian Bosporus, its prosperous territory was originally a Greek colony. It outlasted all others, only briefly becoming a province under the Emperor Nero.
